Loving all things velvet right now! I was inspired by a bow garland I saw on Anthropologie online, but was not crazy about the $128 price tag. I knew I could recreate this style for a fraction of the price.
Find High End Ribbon at Your Local Craft Store!
I was out shopping for Halloween decor and DIY supplies while the kiddos were at school and was able to hit up a couple of crafting stores here in town. I was on the hunt for black or soft purple velvet ribbon. Micheal’s ended up having various sizes of purple ribbon so I picked up a few and decided to try Hobby Lobby. Lo and behold, while walking through the Christmas ribbon I spotted the PERFECT black velvet ribbon in 2 different sizes at HL. Soft, velvet and rich looking – so gorgeous and perfect for this project. This is the ribbon I used to make the garland.

Velvet Bow Garland DIY
Overall this DIY took me about 20-30 minutes to create, including the time to make and hang on my mantel.
Supplies: 2 Spools of Velvet Ribbon, Hot Glue Gun & Hot Glue

- First things first, create your bow. (I have a quick reel over on my Instagram on how big I made each of my bows.)
2. After creating your ideal bow size – UNTIE it. Sounds crazy but this way you will get perfectly even and same size bows. I bought two rolls of my ribbon and just measured out using my first bow and cutting same size strips of velvet. You may have pieces left over.
3. Now you will tie ALL of your bows. Try to make them as even and symmetrical as possible.
4. Here comes the fun part! Attach your bows together on the ends with hot glue. Start with your first bow, put a dollop of hot glue on the end of the ribbon bow and attach another bow to that glue dollop. Continue on in a line with your bows.
5. I got lucky and was able to use the stars & disco ball garland I already had hanging on my mantel to get my bow garland to stay up there. If this is your only garland. I suggest get string or yarn and attaching the end your garland and hang off mini command hooks.
I love this bow garland so much and it’s easily one of my favorite DIYs to date! I can’t wait to try this again at Christmas time!
